The conclusion of our final PC Zone tournament for the year – the Quake 4 1v1 competition – was not without it's fair share of drama as hard disk issues prevented one semi-final from being completed. This did not however fail to halt the march of Dan “atr|KuuLa” Marshall to his third PC Zone title as he defeated Guillaume “aAa-Appleseed” Portier in the Final by an astonishing 17-1 score on Over The Edge, the popular Q2DM1 remake.

This victory for Dan prevented Guillaume from making it a Quake 4 double though clearly the Frenchman's impressive efforts in these tournaments have set him up as one of the potential stars of next year, whilst Dan looks set to continue on his impressive performance from Painkiller in the new game, something that will give hope to a number of professional Painkiller players who will be crossing over to Quake 4 now the World Tour is switching codes.

A capacity 64 player field set out tonight to win the Quake 4 FFA Tournament and it proved to be a very busy evening, choc full of great play as we progressed through the rounds. In the end we were left with 8 players, the cream of the Quake 4 crop, as aAa-Appleseed, d`TooGoood, LKFF-vCz, gunk-impulse, ^X^Weird, Levi`r2k, rB'Slu and CreamyGoodness took to the battlefield for 15 minutes of Q4DM7 action.

The results were as shown in this screenshot, captured as the buzzer sounded:

Congratulations go to Guillaume “aAa-Appleseed” Portier, now a two-time winner in the PC Zone Series. In 2nd place was James “dignitas`TooGooood” Harding whilst Sven “LKFF-vCz” Spruijt picks up 3rd place to go with his recent 1st in the Quake 3 FFA Tournament. A big thanks go to the admin team of Oxi, Jr and Jamerio who ensured the tournament went by without any major problems.

Wednesday sees the 1v1 Tournament continuing with us down to the Last 32 stage.

The full draw for both the 1v1 and FFA tournaments have been posted.

In total we had over 220 players applying for both tournaments, from which we've whittled it down to 64 for the 1v1 and about 70 for the FFA. I'm really sorry if you haven't got into the competitions but we need to limit numbers to ensure the competition is completed in a timely manner.

It all kicks off tonight with the 1st Round of the 1v1. It should be a hectic but hopefully enjoyable evening!

I'm delighted to announce that our Round 12 tournaments will be as follows:

  • Quake 4 1v1

  • Quake 4 FFA

The competitions will be run next week, carry a combined prize pool of 21 items from our Sponsors section (see link in menu) and are open for signups now. The deadline for registrations is Saturday afternoon, whilst the competitions will run on specific days next week, starting from Monday, until their conclusion on Sunday 13th November. They will not clash with each other so should you wish to enter both you may do so.

Spaces are limited to perhaps just 64 per tournament and we expect demand to be high so get signing up now!

Round 11 has come to a conclusion with Finnish player Juho “Toot” Kostiainen winning the flagship Planetarion Speedgame event, closely followed by fellow Finland based player Pasi “Lissu” Halio. Bringing up the rear for the UK in 3rd place was James “bwtmc” Andrews.

Round 12, what may well be the last round of the PC Zone tournament for some time, is now upon us and will be concluded inside the next 2 weeks. To see out the competition in style we'll be concentrating on running just two tournaments but they should be fantastic ones as they will focus on the game that promises to be one of the most competitive next year – Quake 4.

We intend to run a Free For All and 1 on 1 Competition, registrations for which should go live in the next 24 hours.

We may have reached the end of Round 10 but fear not intrepid gamer because Round 11 is coming up shortly!

Our penultimate round will be a little different in that we'll be featuring Planetarion as one of the tournament games. The popular spaced-based adventure takes place in your browser meaning that literally anyone can play and over the weekend of the 8th & 9th of October we'll be running a special "Speedgame" that sees the usual 10 week round condensed into just 24 hours of high-octane action.

Also in our plans for Round 11 is Jolt's first Day of Defeat: Source tournament. Monday the 26th September sees this highly-anticipated title being released via the Steam distribution system and we'll be running a competition of sorts for it during the month of October, though the exact format is yet to be determined.

Our third competition is actually a multitude of events as I'm happy to confirm that we'll be donating prizes to cover some of the WorldCyberGames UK Online Qualifiers. These tournaments are being run to help us find the creaming of gaming crop in the UK with winners progressing to a UK Final that will see them come up against some of top LAN talent in the country. At this UK Final a number of prizes will be up for grabs including the ultimate prize – a free trip to Singapore to play against the best in the world for huge cash prizes. The PC Zone series and our sponsors will be donating prizes for the FIFA 2005, WarHammer 40,000: Dawn of War, StarCraft: Brood War and Warcraft: 3 The Frozen Throne tournaments. These competitions are already well underway and should provide some thrilling action as they reach the final stages over the next 7 days.

A very enjoyable night of Q3CTF action saw a capacity 125 spectator crowd witnessing some of the finest CTF clans of the last couple of years doing battle in the hunt for the PC Zone title & prizes.

The Semi-Finals saw aAa pushed hard by EYE but just managing to confirm the seedings with a win, this despite EYE coming back from 2-0 down to level it at 2-2, whilst FOE had a slightly easier time of things against RaWR to setup a final between the Top 2 seeds. What a final it proved to be too as aAa took CTF2 and lead on CP15 only for FOE to battle back to take the second map and force a decider on CP5. This map also saw high drama with aAa denied at least once by some amazing FOE returning only for the French side to take the map in the last 30 seconds with the only cap.

FOE go home defeated but by no means disgraced whilst aAa continue the French domination of the Q3CTC cups, themselves and S? having accounted for the three such tournaments run as part of the PC Zone series. Demos of these matches should hopefully be available shortly.

Tonight, Jolt and all it's HLTV spectators(45 in total) witnessed a spectacular game between steelhand and exception. Maps played were Donner and Harrington. The match started on Donner.

eXception started off strong on donner, then
steelhand pushed them back to 2nd flag for rest of the first half. 2nd half steelhand started strong and ended up wining that map by 2 points to make scores 142 to 140.

harrinton was up and down. steelhand took the first cap then eXception fought back to take a cap. In the end eXception were less worried about being capped and just tried to hold there last flag.

The final score for Harring was steelhand 448 to 285 to eXception.

Well played to both teams and to all who enterd the 6v6 Cup. I would also like to thank all the admins for giving up there free time to admin matches
